A - KUSADASI – EPHESUS (HALF DAY – WITHOUT LUNCH)
Tour Description:
Ephesus, considered one of the world’s seven wonders, Ephesus began as an Ionian refuge and grew to be the second largest city in the Roman Empire and the site of a Christian Shrine (as referenced by Paul in his Letter to the Ephesians). You’ll see the Vedius Gymnasium and the foundation of what must have been an enormous Stadium (the seats were removed to build the Byzantine city walls). Once you pass through the main gate, you can’t help being drawn to the Arcadian Street, a marvelous marble colonnaded avenue. At one end the street leads to a small marsh; the other end leads to the dazzling Grand Theatre. Seating some 24,000 spectators, the Theatre is carved into the side of Mount Pion and was the site of the Festival of Artemis celebrated every April. Running before the Theatre is the Marble Road, follow the road to the Library of Celsus that was almost entirely reconstructed by Viennese archaeologists. The Library’s carved facade hints at the regal architecture that once dominated Ephesus. Look toward the hill and you’ll find the Temple of Hadrian, the Baths of Scholastikia and the Terrace Houses. Beyond that lies the Fountain of Trajan and the Grotto of the Seven Sleepers.

B - KUSADASI – SAINT JOHN AND THE HOUSE OF THE VIRGIN MARY (HALF DAY – WITHOUT LUNCH)
Tour Description:
The tour will take you to the Fortress of Selcuk, where you will find the church of Saint John, considered to be the most important Byzantine building in Ephesus. Justinian and the Queen Theodora had the Basilica built in the 6th Century A.D. on the ruins of a small church, on the tomb of St. John, who died in Ephesus in 100 A.D… The tour will then continue to the House of the Virgin Mary, declared a pilgrimage place in 1892. Mary lived in a house on the Bulbul Mountain in Ephesus for 46 years, which was forgotten up until 200 years ago. The House of the Virgin was made famous by the travels of Pope Paul VI, Pope John II and the recent visit of Benedict XVI.

C - KUSADACI – EPHESUS AND THE HOUSE OF THE VIRGIN MARY (HALF DAY – WITHOUT LUNCH)
Tour Description:
During your tour of the city, you will discover the unforgettable riches of Ephesus, the ancient capital of Asia Minor and principal Mediterranean port. You will admire the agora and the Temple of Hadrian and will not fail to be astounded by the magnificent Celsus Library. Be sure to have your photo taken sitting on the steps of the largest Theatre of the ancient world, which will take you back in time to when the arena was packed with over 25,000 spectators. The next step is one of Christianity’s best loved shrines: the spot venerated by the faithful as the place in which the Virgin Mary spent the last years of her life in retreat and prayer. The humble house, set amidst the lush greenery of Mount Bulbul, was forgotten until 1892, when it was declared a holy site of pilgrimage. A small stone church now stands on the foundations of the ruined house, which has been made famous by numerous prayer visits by Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II.
